The world is intriguing, and any book that looks into the dark and shadowy world of assassins is immediately interesting to me. The first in a trilogy of books, Weeks introduces us to a master assassin and his new apprentice. amateurish.įirst let me praise the book though, so that any of my grievances will not necessarily dissuade you from reading The Way of Shadows. ![]() And while the intent of the author was laudable, the actual telling of the story was. My girlfriend leant me the book and I was tasked with reading it as soon as possible. That leads me to The Way of Shadows, by Brent Weeks. Books should be a combination of entertainment and good writing. And while some may think that that is obvious, I think it’s just plain sad. ![]() This might seem like a realization I should have made earlier, but there it is. I Twittered the other day (follow me at /JoshSHill/) that I had just realized people don’t actually want good writing, they just want to be entertained. ![]()

A section on the post-Vedic history of Soma is contributed by the Sanskrit scholar Wendy Doniger O'Flaherty. In his presentation he throws fascinating light on the role of mushrooms in religious ritual. Wasson has aroused considerable attention in learned circles and beyond by advancing and documenting the thesis that Soma was a hallucinogenic mushroom - none other than the Amanita muscaria, the fly-agaric that until recent times was the centre of shamanic rites among the Siberian and Uralic tribesmen. One of the key enigmas of cultural history has been the identity of a sacred plant called Soma in the ancient Rig Veda of India. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() How much magic the Fairy Godmother holds without her wand is questionable, as the only powers she demonstrated without using her wand was her ability to appear from thin air surrounded by sparkles and, as mentioned above, summoning said wand.Īpparently, she has a connection with her wand as she was able to find it in Anastasia's hands after losing it in the picnic she made for Cinderella and the Prince, despite the long distance.
